A Qatari delegation, headed by HE the Minister of Energy and Industry, Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, recently visited Algerian-Qatari Steel Company (Bellara Steel Complex) located some 375km northeast of Algiers. The project, which covers an area of about 216 hectares, is the first of the co-operation agreement signed between Qatar and Algeria in 2013. It is a joint venture between Qatar International Steel Company (49%) and Algeria’s Cedar and Algeria Investment Fund (51%).

It is expected that the production capacity of the plant will gradually increase and reach in the coming year to about 2mn tonnes of steel. HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani laid the foundation stone for the project in March 2015 along with  Abdelmalek Sellal, the then Algerian prime minister.
