Greece as the top destination for Indian tourists

After the appearance of Greek representatives at the International Tourism Fair OTM, held in Mumbai from 23rd to 25th of January 2019, a significant increase of Indian tourists has been noticed. This increase started in the previous year (2018), when comparing to 2017, the number of the tourists from India has been increased for 80,8%.

At the Fair, the Greek Tourism Organization had a pavilion, hosting co-exhibitors from Greece, and it won the Best Decoration Award for the pavilion design. The pavilion was visited by the Indian’s Minister of Tourism and Culture, Alphons Kannanthanam who confirmed that “Greece became the most popular destination for the Indian people”, as the Greek Tourism Organization says in his statement.

The head of the Greek mission was the Secretary General of the Greek Tourism Organization, Konstantinos Tsegas, who met important representatives of the Indian tourist market (Thomas Cook , Gems Tours Andr Travels, Cox & Kings, etc.) and members of the country’s film industry, with whom he discussed the plans which are formed for this year about the extension of the tourist season and the new destinations opening.

Mr. Tsegas referred to the excellent strategy results of the Ministry of Tourism and its Minister – Elena Kountoura, as she penetrated the Indian market and started the dynamic promotion of Greece as an attractive tourism destination for 365 days per year .
