16th Consultative Meeting of GCC Interior Ministers Concludes…

H.E Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Qatar Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani presided over the 16th consultative meeting of the GCC Interior Ministers today, Wednesday, 29/4/2015 at Sheraton hotel in Doha.

Heading the delegations of the GCC member countries, H.E Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the U.A.E Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.E the Minister of Interior of Bahrain Lt. Gen. Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, H.E. the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior of Saudi Arabia Dr. Ahmed bin Muhammed Al Salim, H.E the Minister of Interior of Oman Hamoud bin Faisal Al Bousaeedi and H.E. the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Kuwait Sheikh Muhammed Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah attended the meeting. The delegation of the general secretariat of the GCC was headed by H.E Dr. Abdul Latif Al Zayani, the secretary general.

While delivering the opening address, H.E the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Qatar welcomed their Excellencies, the ministers of interior of the GCC countries to the meeting and extended the greetings of H.H Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar and his wishes of the success for the meeting for achieving power, prestige and peace for the people of the GCC countries.

During his speech, H.E the Prime Minister thanked the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Kuwait H.E Sheikh Muhammed Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah for spending excellent efforts which have positive influence in pushing the friendly

joint march ahead and enhancing joint security cooperation between GCC countries.

He also congratulated the people of Oman on the occasion of safe return of the H.H the Sultan of Oman to the country after treatment and H.H the Emir Muhammed bin Nayif bin Abdul Azeez Al Saud for appointing him as the crown prince and first deputy for the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia by the custodian of two holy mosques King of Saudi Arabia H.H Salman bin Abdul Azeez Al Saud.

“We meet today to continue the blessed joint move of the GCC countries, as an implementation for the directives of the wise and prudent Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of our countries, may Allah protect and save them to achieve more accomplishments in the context of the GCC framework in order to achieve security, stability and prosperity for our countries and people”, said HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister.

He also pointed out that, today’s meeting is held under exceptional circumstances and unprecedented challenges faced by the Gulf region and the Arab region as a whole. In the forefront of them is the political and security instability of many countries and in the forefront of those countries is Yemen, of which the stability is considered as the stability of our Gulf countries “.

GCC Ministers in Qatar

Pointing out to the wise decision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, the king of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in launching ‘Decisive Storm’ (Asifath Al Hazm), Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani said that the stand of our leaders towards the Yemeni crisis has

increased our ability and the strength to overcome all challenges faced by the GCC countries through taking the lead in addressing the risks and security threats to any of the GCC countries.

The joint security cooperation move between the GCC countries, especially during the recent years has become a role model at regional and international levels. We believe that the security sought by our people has become one of the biggest challenges faced by our countries because of developments, radical changes and extremely sensitive circumstances witnessed by our region, he added.

Pointing out to the main security challenges, H.E the Prime Minister said that the terrorism is the most dangerous crimes faced not only by the GCC countries but also by the whole world. One of the example was the terrorist attack happened in the Saudi Arabia, where two Saudi security men were killed and the explosion at Karana village of Bahrain which resulted in the death of two policemen.

In this context, our discussion to form a Unified Gulf Blacklist for terrorist entities and persons, which is prepared and put criteria and standards by the Committee of Experts, urges us to approve those standards and to apply it quickly in order to meet the threats and terrorist acts that target any of the GCC countries, both within or outside the borders of the state, and for the prosecution of wanted people and those involved in terrorist acts, stated the Prime Minister.

Speaking at the event, Lt. Gen. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of UAE expressed thanks to HH the Emir and the government and

people of Qatar for hosting the meeting, and congratulated GCC leaders for the success of Operation Decisive Storm as well as the HH Emir Muhammad bin Nayef bin Abdul Aziz for his appointment as the new heir apparent of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

After on Lt. Gen. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa, Minister of Interior of Bahrain, lauded Operation Decisive Storm as a legitimate process that all Arabs agreed upon, and backed by international legitimacy.

He said the operation succeeded in achieving its legitimate objectives and was also a success in terms of planning and execution and was the subject of regional, Arab and international support.

He added that the operation resembled a common position in the decision-making as well as Arab and Gulf commitment, congratulating GCC leaders for the political, military and security success.

He expressed hope that the operation will achieve its objectives of the return of legitimacy to Yemen and for citizens to enjoy security, stability and prosperity.

HE said that exploring GCC states’ political approach to the future in light of the Gulf and regional variables makes the promotion of cooperation and integration at the forefront of GCC priorities in order to achieve the union, which has become a concrete reality and a foregone conclusion.
