DOHA: The Public Work Authority — Ashghal — has signed so far deals QR38.524bn to build expressways throughout the country.
Eleven of the projects worth QR18.212bn are under construction. They are Al Rayan Road worth more than QR98.6m, F-Ring Road worth QR936.8m, east of Industrial Area Road worth QR226m, Al Huwaila link road worth QR334m and all these are scheduled to be completed this year.
The projects slated to end by 2016 are part of Dukhan Expressway worth more than QR1bn, Al Muntaza Road wroth QR2.3bn, and renovation of Al Shamala Road worth QR2.1bn.
East part of Dukhan Road wroth QR3.7bn, east-west access project worth QR2.2bn and QR1.6bn respectively and Lusail Expressway wroth QR3.5bn will be completed by 2017.
The expressway development programme aims to build more than 980km of roads, including more than 10,000km of total lanes, 240 intersections with facilities to cater to Doha and other main cities and outer parts of the country.
It was disclosed by Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi, Head of Ashghal in a press conference yesterday.
Contracts to build expressway projects worth QR20.312bn have also been signed. The projects will start this very year and scheduled to be completed by 2016-18, he added.
Work on 14 additional expressway projects will start next year. Ashghal is working on 15 road and infrastructure development projects worth QR3.7bn throughout the country.
Work on 80 projects for full-fledged developments will start this year or by the next. Five of the projects will be implemented in new areas. The projects will be completed within two to three years. Source: The Peninsula
