DOHA: As part of efforts to save water and energy, Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is likely to use innovative and award-winning sanitaryware in the upcoming schools, a senior official of Al Futtaim Group, the authorised supplier of Roca products in Qatar, said here yesterday.
The uniquely designed environment-friendly product is an integration of water closet (WC) and wash basin enables to re-use the wash basin water for flushing the toilet.
“We have approached Ashghal and they liked the product to use, especially in the under construction schools, after due approvals from concerned authorities,” said Wasim Hicham Haider, General Manager (Building Product Division) at Al Futtaim Engineering.
Haider, while speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the opening of an exclusive showroom of Roca products in Qatar, said: “The product is innovative in terms of efficiency and environment as it saves a lot of water. It is more suitable in public areas such as malls, hotels, railway stations and schools, where the use is more intensive.”
According to Haider this unique product, called W+W (WC+ Wash basin), was honoured in Frankfurt four years ago for being the number one innovative sanitaryware as it ensures zero wastage or optimum utilisation of water.
“This environment-friendly product of Roca, one of the leading manufacturer of sanitary ware in the world, has attracted overwhelming response from around the globe. However, we believe it is going to be more popular in the water-stressed countries, especially the Gulf region, where most of the water is sourced from desalination plants,” he said.
Present at the event were many senior officials of Al Futtaim group, including S S Murali, Acting Managing Director; Amit Kapila, Country Manager, Yousuf Ali bin Zayed, Assistant GM and Lejo Johnny, PR Manager. Asked about the cost of the product, he said: “It is cost effective. If you buy a WC and wash basin separately, then this product is cheaper, because it is combined in one. In addition, we also need to account the imputed environment costs as it saves a lot of water and energy through out its life.”
As construction activity picks up in Qatar, Al Futtaim Engineering’s Qatar operations part of Hamad and Mohamad Al Futtaim opened an exclusive Roca showroom along the old Airport road.
The opening of the first Roca showroom follows increasing demand for its range of sanitary ware products as spending on infrastructure and other real estate projects continues to drive growth in construction in the country.
According to industry reports, the government plans to spend more than QR237bn ($65bn) on infrastructure projects until 2016 with majority of the funds earmarked for residential and commercial real estate projects.
“We are extremely pleased to open the state-of-the-art Roca showroom in Qatar, said Dawood Ozair, Senior Managing Director, Electronics, Engineering and Technologies at Al Futtaim.
“Our partnership with Roca is an extension of the group’s DNA to partner with the world’s best brands. This new showroom will strengthen our position among retail clients and reinforce our commitment to this market which is among the fastest growing in the world.” Source: The Peninsula
