Cyprus look forward for ‘mutually successful’ business relations with Qatar

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades said his country is looking forward to co-operate with Qatar in “building mutually successful” business partnerships.
Anastasiades was speaking to prominent Qatari businessmen and dignitaries at a meeting hosted in his honour at the Renaissance Hotel by the Qatari Businessmen Association.
Anastasiades highlighted his country’s advantages as a “good investment destination”. He also spoke about Cyprus’ vantage geographical position as it is located at the crossroads of three continents- Europe, Asia and Africa.
Cyprus, Anastasiades said, is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, making it an “ideal and safe” destination for Arab tourists and the Gulf tourists in particular.
This, he said, creates promising opportunities for joint co-operation in sectors such as tourism and navigation.
Anastasiades also spoke about some of the “investment incentives” that Cyprus offered, including a well-developed infrastructure that attracts businesses.  Additionally, some 50 agreements have been signed with various countries, including one with Qatar, to prevent double taxation.
Cyprus also has a “strong and a solid” tax and legal system. The country’s is considered to have one of the “lowest” tax rates in Europe and the “most competitive” one.
In his address, HE the Minister of Energy and Industry, Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada highlighted the similarities that existed between the two countries. These, he said, would constitute a “solid basis” for co-operation, especially after the signing of several co-operation agreements between the two countries in sectors such as education, law, energy, desalination and waste water treatment.
Al-Sada also stressed the fact that Qatar’s private sector is “strong and ready to work” with the government on its projects abroad as well. QBA chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani welcomed the Cypriot president a presented a souvenir to him on behalf of the association.
Among others present were Hussein alfardan, QBA first deputy chairman; Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani al-Thani, second deputy chairman; Sherida Saad Jubran al Kaabi, board member and QBA members, Nasser Sulaiman al-Haider, Nabil Abu Issa, Salah Murad, Maqbool Habib Khalfan.
