Doha, Sofia seek to expand relations

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and visiting Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev held a round of official talks at the Emiri Diwan yesterday.

The talks were attended by a number of Qatari ministers and members of the official delegation accompanying President Plevneliev.
The two sides reviewed co-operation between the two countries and ways to boost them in all areas.

The Emir and the Bulgarian president witnessed the signing of a twin cities agreement between the municipalities of Doha and Sofia, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for co-operation in training between the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar and the Diplomatic Institute of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry and  another MoU on news exchange and co-operation between Qatar News Agency (QNA) and Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

The Emir hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of the Bulgarian president and the accompanying delegation. President Plevneliev, who arrived in Doha on Monday on a state visit to Qatar, was accorded a red-carpet reception at the Emiri Diwan. He visited the Qatar Foundation (QF) headquarters where he was welcomed by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser.

They discussed collaboration between Qatar and Bulgaria in research and development, particularly biotechnology, engineering and chemistry. They also discussed possible collaboration between the Qatar National Library and the Bulgarian National Library as well as education and educational exchanges.
