Dubai named among the 10 most expensive world destinations…

Dubai has been named among the 10 most expensive destinations in the world by TripAdvisor, with the cost of dinner topping the list.

The TripIndex Cities 2015 destination list, which comprised 59 key cities, ranked Dubai ninth, with the cost of a three-day break calculated at $1,523.82.

The emirate, which is targeting 20 million annual tourists by 2020, was still well behind the cost of visiting Cancun, Mexico of just over $2,000.

Zurich, New York, London and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic completed the top five most expensive destinations in the world.

Paris, Tokyo and Toronto were also ranked more expensive than Dubai while Singapore rounded out the top 10 with a three-day holiday costing $1,507.80.

Four of the 10 most affordable cities worldwide are in Southeast Asia, with Hanoi ($732), Bangkok ($822), Kuala Lumpur ($914) and Manila ($925). Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt was named as the third cheapest with an overall cost of $820.26.

The TripIndex takes into account typical travel costs for two. For each day, the index factors a four-star hotel stay, an organised tour or activity at local attractions, a round-trip taxi ride, as well as lunch and dinner.

In Dubai, the cost of lunch was calculated at $53.36, dinner ($166.87 – the most expensive of any city in the top 10), taxi ($10.19), tour ($143.28), hotel ($134.24).
