Qatar and Kazakhstan signed two agreements and a memorandum of understanding following a session of talks chaired by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the presidential palace in Astana yesterday.
At the outset of the session, President Nazarbayev welcomed the Emir and the accompanying delegation, expressing the hope the relations between the two countries will be taken to a higher level.
The Emir thanked the Kazakh president for his keenness to promote the bonds of friendship and co-operation between the two countries, saying that his visit will usher an opportunity for exchanging views on issues of mutual concern, and stressing that it will contribute to boosting bilateral relations.
Talks during the session dealt with bilateral relations and ways to develop them in different fields in addition to a wide range of issues of common concern.
The talks were attended by the special representative of HH the Emir, HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani and members of accompanying official delegation.
Following the talks, the Emir and the president witnessed the signing of two agreements between Qatar and Kazakhstan. The first one was on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income, and the second was between Qatar Mining and the National Mining Company Tau-Ken Samruk. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and Samruk Fund was also signed.
Prior to the official talks the Emir and President Nazarbayev held a meeting, where they discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them.
Official reception ceremonies were accorded to the Emir upon arrival at the Kazakh presidential palace.
Later yesterday the Emir attended a dinner banquet President Nazarbayev hosted in his honour.
Personal representative of HH the Emir HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani attended the banquet. The accompanying delegation also attended the banquet.
A number of ranking Kazakhstani officials and ministers also attended the event.
Earlier on arrival, the Emir and his accompanying delegation were welcomed at Astana International Airport by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Economy and Budget Planning Yerbolat Dosayev, Qatar’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Abdullah Ahmed al-Mutawa and Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Qatar Azamat Berdibay.
Later yesterday the Emir left Kazakhstan wrapping a one-day state visit.
The Emir and his accompanying delegation were seen off at Astana Airport by Minister Dosayev, Qatar’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Abdullah Ahmed al-Mutawa and the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Qatar Azamat Berdibay.
The Emir sent a cable to the President Nazarbayev conveying his appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to him and his accompanying delegation. QNA
