Participants at the technical programme selection committee meeting.

The seventh edition of the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) will take place in Doha from January 20 to 22 next year.
The theme of the conference, which will be held at the Qatar National Convention Centre, will be “Unlocking energy through innovation, technology and capability”.

The call for technical papers saw a record increase in the number of papers and participating companies. The event received more than 1,800 abstracts from oil and gas professionals in some 396 companies from 61 countries – a rise of around 60% from the last IPTC that took place in the region.
IPTC is the largest multi-society, multi-disciplinary oil and gas event in the eastern hemisphere and co-organised by four leading industry societies – American Association of Petroleum Geologists, European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers, Society of Exploration Geophysicists and Society of Petroleum Engineers.

“The seventh IPTC will provide oil and gas professionals with excellent opportunities to connect with the industry’s visionary leaders and decisionmakers. I would like to thank the committee for its efforts and firm approach in selecting the papers submitted. This, in turn, ensures the programme is unmatched in quality and sets a high benchmark for papers presented in future events,” said Khalid al-Hitmi, manager (gas development) at Qatar Petroleum, host organisation of the seventh IPTC.

The seventh IPTC “call for papers” received 1,803 submissions, of which 500 papers were selected at the selection meeting held in May.
The selected papers will be featured in 67 technical sessions and numerous knowledge-sharing workshops at the conference. The technical programme was also announced and will highlight high-level CEO plenary sessions and four panel sessions. Moreover, the event will showcase a number of business-oriented topical breakfasts and lunches.

“As with previous editions, IPTC promises to be a resounding success. This event will bring the oil and gas community together to discuss the latest issues, technological advancements and experiences, and foster the exchange and dissemination of knowledge and expertise,” said Bart Cahir, president (Qatar), ExxonMobil Corporation, co-host of the seventh IPTC.

Around 6,500 attendees and 200 exhibitors are expected to participate in the prestigious event. The largest multi-society oil and gas exhibition in the eastern hemisphere will feature dedicated discipline-themed zones, for the first time.
