QATAR: Heir Apparent opens Qatar Career Fair

HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has opened Qatar Career Fair 2013 that aims to connect Qatari job seekers with prospective employers.

HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani meeting officials during the opening of the career fair at Qatar National Convention Center. The six-day event, entitled “Write the Next Chapter in Qatar’s Success”, is organised by the Emiri Diwan, Qatar Foundation for Education, Sciences and Community Development, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar University and the Ministry of Labour.

A number of ministers and heads of various companies and organisations took part in the opening ceremony.

The fair, being held at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), runs until April 6 with the participation of around 150 exhibitors from private and public sectors.

After the opening ceremony, HH the Heir Apparent visited a number of booths and interacted with exhibitors. He also toured the photo gallery, organised on the sidelines of the career fair.

The fair, entitled “Write the Next Chapter in Qatar’s Success”, is organised by the Emiri Diwan, Qatar Foundation, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar University and the Ministry of Labour.

Besides the five main organisers, participants consist of 28 government branches, 39 energy and industry groups, 30 education, health and sports institutes, 32 business and finance firms and 16 awareness centres. They are categorised into “diamond”, “pearl”, “silver” and “bronze”.

QCF executive director Abdullah al-Mansoori expressed confidence that the fair would deliver a better outcome than the previous years’.

“Qatar Career Fair is a platform that connects Qatari students, job seekers, employers and other constituents in an effort to create a dynamic future workforce of  nationals, thereby upholding the human development pillar of Qatar Vision 2030,” he said.

He said that it was not a job fair but a platform to a great career. “Though not a job fair, it leads to employment opportunities for nationals who have outstanding academic records as the nation’s top employers are present to scout for good candidates each year.”

In the run-up to the fair, many activities were organised which included photo, story and investment contests, an open day and volunteer programmes and an awareness campaign.

More than 300 volunteers, both men and women, were given short courses. In the investment contest, 15 business ideas were received and six winners were announced.

In the photo contest, 20 participants submitted career-related pictures. Winners will be announced on the last day of the exhibition. In the story contest, entries related to career will be evaluated by Bloomsbury Qatar.

On all days until Saturday, the fair will be open from 9am to 9pm. A day for women only will be held on April 4 from 9am to 4pm.
