QATAR: HH the Emir tours new Qatar National Museum project

HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday toured the construction site of Qatar National Museum Project, an affiliate of Qatar Museums Authority (QMA).

The Emir was briefed on the stages of the work in progress and the plans to restore the old palace. The Emir was shown engineering charts and architectural designs related to the project.

Qatar National Museum Project’s officials have begun the process of collecting the ethnographic and archaeological items through programmes and activities specifically designed and held to achieve the goals of the museum in bringing together the Qatari material and moral heritage under one roof.

The new museum’s innovative design created by eminent architect Jean Nouvel is inspired by the Desert Sand Rose and is made up of a series of interlocking disks with cavities inside buffered from the hot desert sun.
