QATAR population …has grown by over 92%

In a little over six years, Qatar population has grown by over 92%, according to the Qatar Statistical Authority (QSA).


A QSA report said the population which reached the 1mn-mark in January 2007 now stands at 1,920,798.
This figure as on March 31 shows an increase of 3,682 compared to that of February 28 this year.
The latest figures also showed a decline of 2,711 in the total number of females in the country compared to February this year. While the previous figures showed there were 500,389 women in the country, the March 31 figures put their number at 497,178.
The female population in Qatar surpassed the 500,000 mark in February this year, it said.
In the latest figures there are 1,423,620 males (74.11% of the population) in Qatar.
The March 31 figures also showed that compared to the November 2006 figures of 890,000, the latest Qatar population showed a growth of about 117%.
The figures also showed that in the one year between December 31, 2011 and December 31, 2012, the country received more than 140,000 newcomers, which in effect showed a 7.5% rise in the population compared to the previous year. The previous year’s highest population was recorded on November 30, 2012 when the figure was given as approximately 1,850,000.
In the three years between December 31, 2008 and December 31, 2011, the country’s population grew by about 280,000.
The lowest population recorded in the last five years was in July 2009 when it was 1,502,374. The latest record shows a net rise of 418,424 people compared to that figure.
