Ambassadors of the Gulf Co-operation Council described HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani’s assumption of the reins of power in Qatar as a “historical precedent,” reflecting HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani’s belief in the ability of youth to take over the responsibility effectively.
In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the GCC envoys congratulated HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani for realising “such a great civilised achievement”, expressing confidence that Sheikh Tamim will pursue the policies framed by HH the Father Emir, which enabled Qatar to achieve a prominent place in the world.
On this important occasion, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Qatar, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Aifan extended his country’s congratulations and blessings to the State of Qatar, its government and people, praying to God Almighty to enhance the development process witnessed by the State of Qatar under HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim’s leadership.
The Saudi envoy stressed that the existing relations between the two countries will continue to flourish and prosper under the wise leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
In this context, he underlined the ongoing co-operation between the Saudi Kingdom and GCC countries at the bilateral or collective levels within the framework of the GCC meetings and the continuous co-ordination and co-operation between Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar.
The Saudi ambassador said that the GCC is witnessing a remarkable progress, and expressed hope to achieve more, particularly in the context of unification among the GCC member-states, a proposal suggested by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.”
In a statement to Qatar News Agency, UAE Ambassador to Qatar Juma Rashid al-Dhaheri said: We congratulate HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on his assumption of the reins of power as the Emir of Qatar, and also congratulate the people of Qatar on the occasion of this new era and the orderly transition of power as well as on the occasion of swearing allegiance to HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim.”
He added that the way in which the Qataris paid allegiance showed that they are loyal to their leadership.
The UAE ambassador described the relations between the UAE and Qatar as “distinct and strong”, referring to the visit paid by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Qatar to convey the greetings of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan and the people of the UAE to Sheikh Tamim.
He also praised HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, who he said has left his mark on history and for which history will remember him.
Regarding the relationship between Qatar and the UAE, al-Dhaheri said the existing co-ordination will continue at high level in both countries, adding that there are consultations between the leaderships of the two states.
For his part, the Omani Ambassador to Qatar Mohamed bin Nasser Hamad al-Wihaibi, said in remarks to QNA that the transition of power is a historic and important move that establishes a new era in Qatar’s history and its quest for progress and aspiration for future with a wise vision that foresees greater prospects for further progress.
