QATAR: Sheikha Moza crowned a ''The First Arab Lady'' for 2012

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser was crowned as “The First Arab Lady” for 2012 in an online opinion poll conducted by the Al–Ahram daily of Egypt. Some 2.7mn Arabs participated in the poll via the paper’s website or post, a report in the local Arabic daily Al Watan said.

Sheikha Naeema al-Ahmed Jabber al-Sabah from Kuwait was second in a list  consisting 10 Arab ladies. The criteria for selection was the role of ladies who served the issues facing the Arab nation in general and the Arab ladies in particular, personalities who are distinguished in various fields. The award of the First Arab Lady was introduced for the first time recently to valuate the role of women in developing the Arab people.

The poll ended early 2013. The title of the “The First Arab Lady” was decided by the visitors to the website who voted for HH Sheikha Moza for her outstanding role in serving the Qatari community and her charity work in many Arab countries. Sheikha Moza was also praised for her elegance and character that honours the Arab ladies in the international gatherings.

People from all over the Arab world and Arabs resident in Europe, America and Asia participated in the poll. Sheikha Fatima of UAE and  Sheikha Hessa bin Saad al-Sabah of Kuwait were also widely praised for their public roles in their countries and the region.
