QATAR: South Hook Gas cemented its position as the UK’s largest LNG terminal shipper … arrival of 300th cargo Q-Max vessel

South Hook Gas cemented its position as the UK’s largest LNG terminal shipper with the arrival and safe off-loading of its 300th cargo Q-Max vessel ‘Umm Slal’ yesterday.  As a Q-Max vessel, Umm Slal is one of the biggest LNG vessels in the world, capable of carrying almost twice as much as a conventional LNG carrier and can provide enough gas to meet London’s needs for a week. “The delivery of the 300th cargo to the UK is a significant milestone in fulfilling the vision of HH the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, and under the guidance of HE the Minister for Energy & Industry, Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada,” South Hook Gas said yesterday.

South Hook Gas Company chairman Sheikh Saoud al-Thani said: “The arrival of LNG has transformed gas supply to the UK as it can now access supplies from all over the world and this has improved energy security. The arrival of our 300th cargo demonstrates our long-term commitment to the UK.” South Hook Gas has supplied gas every day since commencing operations and can supply around 20% of the UK’s gas needs.

South Hook Gas (SHG) is an LNG import company and terminal shipper, which owns and manages all of the regasification capacity as well as System Entry Capacity at the South Hook LNG Terminal at Milford Haven in Wales. Established in 2004 and based in London, SHG is a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum International (70%) and ExxonMobil (30%).
