Qatargas and RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) have been honoured for promoting education and Qatarisation, respectively.

Qatargas won a prestigious award for its support to the education sector in the country by supplementing government efforts to increase literacy rate. The honour was given in the “support and liaison with the education sector” category at the annual Qatarisation awards.

Meanwhile, RasGas was awarded in recognition of its progress in terms of Qatarisation in 2012, including the training and development of nationals and support for education. The Qatarisation crystal award was given to the company for maintaining a 33% Qatarisation rate in 2012 and attracting more than 1,400 Qatari applicants at the annual Career Fair.

Qatargas CEO Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani received the award, which was presented by HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada at the annual Qatarisation review meeting held earlier in the week.

“We are very proud to receive this award, which underlines our continued commitment to supporting the education sector,” the Qatargas CEO said. “Investing in the education and training of young nationals is a core element of our corporate social responsibility strategy.”

Qatargas’s support for education and its collaboration with the education sector are spread across several areas.

The company runs a summer internship programme for Qatari national high school and university students. The programme gives them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with and gain experience from a real working environment at the company’s locations.

Throughout 2012, RasGas engaged in numerous initiatives to ensure that Qatari employees were presented with career development and training opportunities required to meet the company’s Qatarisation targets. These included establishing a national operator role model programme and starting a monthly trainee recognition programme to incentivise high-performing nationals.

In addition, RasGas fosters an online community for its developees and scholars, both locally and abroad.

From a management perspective, RasGas continued to hold its quarterly company-wide meetings to update Qataris on their performance against Qatarisation targets and present and discuss various related issues.

“RasGas is focused on building a competent and successful Qatari workforce. This award is testimony to the effectiveness of our Qatarisation strategy and our continuous efforts to attract and retain the highest calibre of employees,”
said RasGas CEO Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi.

“I am particularly proud to be receiving another crystal award on behalf of all of RasGas. Even as the competition gets tougher, this is the company’s third win since 2009,” he added.
