Qatar’s Emir presents Education Excellence Day awards…

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani presenting awards at a function to mark Qatar’s Education Excellence Day. 

The awards were given away to students and institutions in six categories, such as “Distinguished Secondary Student”, “Distinguished University Graduate”, “Distinguished PhD Holder”, “Distinguished Teacher”, “Distinguished School” and “Distinguished Secondary Research Paper”.

A total of 24 students and a representative from the outstanding school received the awards from the Emir.

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani presented the Education Excellence Day (EED) awards to outstanding students and institutions for the academic year 2012-2013 at a ceremony attended by a number of dignitaries.

HE the Prime Minister, Interior Minister and the Supreme Education Council (SEC) president Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, SEC vice-president and Executive Committee chairperson HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani, Minister of Education and Higher Education and SEC secretary general HE Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi and a number of ministers were present.

The awards were given away to students and institutions in six categories, such as “Distinguished Secondary Student”, “Distinguished University Graduate”, “Distinguished PhD Holder”, “Distinguished Teacher”, “Distinguished School”, and “Distinguished Secondary Research Paper”. A total of 24 students and a representative from the outstanding school received the awards from the Emir.

Giving the keynote address on the occasion, Minister al-Hammadi said that the annual EED has become a milestone in the educational journey of Qatar.

“EED is a clear indication of our wise leadership’s keen interest to prepare, qualify, build the capacity and encourage the people of this country, and to honour the excellent and the most talented among them, with the belief that Qatar’s true wealth is its human wealth.”

The Minister pointed out that the EED Award is considered the highest academic honour for the most outstanding individuals and educational institutions in Qatar over the past years.

“These awards had a big impact on instilling a culture of excellence and innovation in the educational community, through the adoption of international standards of excellence, the implementation of quality programmes, and the contribution to improving outcomes of the educational process in the country,” he added.

During the event, a documentary was screened highlighting the importance of the EED and the major features of the day. A large number special invitees, including ambassadors of a number of countries, heads of several universities and other educational institutions in the country as well as managers and principals of a large number of Independent and private  schools attended the event.
