HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday visited Milipol Qatar 2016, at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre. The Emir viewed the latest security technologies that major global companies have showcased at the exhibition. He was also briefed on the latest innovation in the field of securing industrial sites, transport and communications as well as the latest developments in civil defense and combating crime.
HH the Emir was accompanied by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani. Meanwhile, the Milipol Qatar Committee has expressed happiness at the success of the 3-day event which concluded yesterday. The exhibition under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani saw the participation of 245 senior officials from 35 countries, recording a 68% rise, compared to the 2014 edition of the biennial Milipol Qatar.
The achievements of the latest edition of the event were listed at a press conference by Milipol Qatar chairman Brigadier Nasser bin Fahad al-Thani, committee members Brigadier Ahmed Abdullah al-Jamal, Brigadier Saud Rashid al-Shafi, Lt Col Hussain Aman al-Ali, Milipol Exhibitions director Murial Kafantaris and Comexposium Security’s security department director Michael Weatherseed. Milipol Qatar 2016, one of the biggest security shows of the Middle East, was opened by HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani on Monday in the presence of a number of ministers and high-ranking officials from across the region, in addition to international delegations.
“A total of 6,538 visitors from 103 countries attended the exhibition, which saw Qatar’s Ministry of Interior alone generating 11 contracts worth QR260.05mn,” Kafantaris pointed out. There were 230 exhibitors from 35 countries, including eight new entrants such as Algeria, Belize, Cyprus, Jordan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Pakistan and Uganda. There were international pavilions representing France, China, Germany, North America and the UK. The Qatar contingent represented a large section of the exhibition floor with 54 companies showcasing a host of safety and security items. From France, 27 exhibitors participated, of which 23 were in the French pavilion, she said.
“The next Milipol Qatar will be held in Doha in October 2018 along with the existing Civil Defence Exhibition & Conference in order to make it the region’s leading homeland security and civil defence event.”
The second and third days of Milipol Qatar 2016 featured a number of meetings and seminar sessions, involving industry personnel. The seminars focused on such areas as crisis management and resilience, safe/smart cities & large events security management, and critical infrastructure protection – cyber threat Intelligence. The last day featured seminars featuring many safety and security personnel. Later the Director General of Public Security HE Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi, honoured the sponsors and delegations at a meeting at Sheraton Doha, the main Official sponsor of Milipol Qatar.
Representatives of Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros. Co, Qatar Petroleum, Saleh Al Hamad al-Mana Co, Qatar Diar, Qatar Tourism Authority, Qatar Rail, Ineo Homeland Security, Naffco, Nexter, Qatar Airways, Milaha, Sheraton Doha, Ooredoo, Hemaya Security and Alhazm were honoured.
