Defender Abdulkareem Hassan termed Qatar’s Gulf Cup win over Saudi Arabia on Wednesday a ‘massive confidence-booster’.
Despite conceding an early goal, Qatar found the net twice to win 2-1 in the final played at King Fahd International Stadium. Saudi Arabia took the lead through Saud Kariri in the 16th minute but Qatar hit back just two minutes later through Al Mahdi Ali. In the second half, Khouki Bualem scored the winning goal in the 58th minute.
“It is an indescribable feeling. But I would say the win is a msssive confidence-booster,” Hassansaid after the presentation ceremony.
“We were in high spirits right throughout the event,” he added. “We have earned the respect of our critics. We put in our maximum effort,” he added.
“It was the most difficult campaign that we ever got into,” Hassan said. “The event was tough. The games were tough but we stayed strong and everyone pitched in to make our journey worthwhile,” he added.
“It was an unforgettable game and I am sure Qatar football fans are delighted with this win.” he said.
“This win puts us in the right frame of mind for the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia,” he said.
