Schools to adopt Online Classes for 1 Week, Covid-19 Cases Jumped to 741 on Friday

Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced today adoption of distance learning system for a period of 1 week and suspension of attendance of all students in all public & private schools and kindergartens, starting from Sunday, January 2, 2022.

That is part of the precautionary measures to contain the spread of  Covid-19 and to maintain the safety of students, as the number of community infections of the disease have considerably gone up in the recent days, the Ministry added.

This decision comes in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), and in accordance with the precautionary and preventive measures required for the public interest, said the Education Ministry in a tweet. The step is to ensure the safety of students, teaching and administrative staff, and to facilitate Coivid testing.

During the one week period, the administrative and teaching staff are to continue to attend schools and kindergartens. The Ministry called on parents to cooperate and to ensure that their sons and daughters attend the online classes.


Meanwhile, Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced the number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases recorded today, December 31, 2021.

With Covid-19 still a threat in the country, it is important for everyone to play their role in controlling the virus by following precautionary measures:
– Adherence to physical distancing.
– Avoid close contact with others, crowded places and confined closed spaces where other people congregate.
– Wearing a face mask
– Washing hands regularly.

The Ministry also mentioned that people should take the Covid-19 vaccine at the earliest opportunity when their turn comes. Anyone suffering from COVID-19 symptoms should contact 16000 helpline immediately. This is important as the earlier the disease is detected the easier it will be to receive the right treatment and recover from it.
